Match Highlight- Carolyn
Tebben and Leah
Carolyn Tebben has been a
Big Sister in our program since May 2004. Along with
being a Big Sister, Carolyn is an attorney and joined
our Board of Directors in September of 2004. Carolyn
shares her time with a young lady named Leah, who is
in the 6th grade. Together they share their time by
scrap booking, painting clay, renting movies and just
hanging out.
Before becoming matched,
both Carolyn and Leah had some reservations. “What if
she doesn’t like me?” and “What if we don’t get
along?” These were similar feelings among Carolyn and
Leah, until they met for the first time. An instant
bond was formed. Together, they wrote about how being
a part of BBBS has changed their lives forever.
Leah writes that “When I met
Carol I felt an instant connection and we bonded with
each other almost immediately”. She also said that
“Getting a Big Sister is one of the best things that
has ever happened to me”. Carolyn feels the same way.
“Leah and I have a very special bond with our own
special ‘code words’ and dances. In my eyes, Leah is
truly my little sister and I love her very much. I
don’t know what I would do without her.”
As you can see, being a part
of BBBS not only changes the lives of young people
but it can also change the lives of our volunteers,
forever.
