Big Brother, Dick Griffin, and his Little Brother, Dylan, have been matched in our program since August 2005. Dylan had been waiting for a Big Brother like Dick for over 2 years. Dick was looking to mentor a child who might enjoy the outdoors, including, but not limited to, boating, fishing, hunting and camping. Needless to say, Dylan enjoys all of the above and Dick has helped Dylan thrive.
Dick and Dylan meet at least once a week for a couple of hours at a time. They have enjoyed many outings such as overnight camping trips, early morning fishing excursions, and yard work at Dick's house. Dick and Dylan were also able to participate in our Bowl For Kids' Sake fundraiser in April. "Dylan is an outstanding young man and a very hard worker." Dick feels very lucky to have been matched with such a wonderful Little Brother. Dick also enjoys attending Dylan's lacrosse games and cheering for him on the sidelines.
Dylan's mom could not be happier with the progress of this match relationship. Dylan is learning and growing. He has picked up a paper route and has made the honor at school last semester. "It is (the relationship) thriving beyond comprehension and was truly worth the wait. Dylan is lucky to have Dick as his Big Brother."
Dick was recently recognized as "Big Brother of the Year 2006" and awarded a plaque at the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. Dick has been honored with this award due to his generousity and outstanding dedication to his Little Brother Dylan and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
